Here at Mc-Mac Farms, we strive to raise healthy, quality, and correct pygmies that will make not only make wonderful loving pets, but will also shine in the showring.
We maintain a small herd of 10-15 goats so we have the time and energy to give each animal the attention it deserves. All goats receive annual vaccines as well as preventative health care treatment. We also promote and practice routine testing for Johne's Disease.
How We Became Mc-Mac Farms
Mc-Mac Farms involves three generations of women. Grandmother- Maxine MacDonald, daughter- Jean McCarthy, and grand-daughter- Erin McCarthy. Maxine and the rest of the family have raised ADGA French Alpines since 1952. In 1988, we purchased our first NPGA registered pygmy goats and wanted a herd-name that would represent both the McCarthy owned pygmy herd and MacDonald owned dairy goat herd. Thus became Mc-Mac Farms.
While our main focus these days are the pygmies, we do maintain a small herd of French and American Alpines.
Erin McCarthy is a Pygmy Goat Judge licensed with the National Pygmy Goat Association as well as being a licensed veterinary technician. She not only enjoys breeding and showing pygmies but she also enjoys showing horses.
Jean McCarthy is a bus driver with Allendale Public Schools. During her summers off, she enjoys trail riding.
Both Jean and Erin are very involved with Michigan Youth 4-H Programs serving as club leaders in Ottawa County as well as sitting on many local and state committees/councils. Erin and Jean lead the Little Rascals Goat 4-H Club. Erin also is a leader of Ottawa Saddle Benders Horse 4-H, and the Ottawa County Teen Club, a teen leadership/citizenship club.
